EDDM questions, answered

Short answers to the EDDM questions local business owners ask most. The smallest order is 200 homes, and you see the full price before you pay. If your question is not here, email hello@brandname.example.

Getting started

What is EDDM?

Every Door Direct Mail is a USPS service that delivers one card to every home on the mail carrier routes you pick. See how it works.

Do I need a mailing list?

No. EDDM goes to every home on a route. You choose areas, not names. There is no list to buy.

What is the smallest order?

200 homes. Retail EDDM allows 200 to 5,000 pieces per ZIP Code per day. Most first mailings are 2,000 to 5,000 homes.

Do I need a USPS permit?

No. Retail EDDM does not need a permit. We handle the paperwork and the drop.

Can I mail only to homes, not businesses?

Yes. Residential only is on by default. You can add businesses on a route if you want them.

What kinds of businesses do you mail for?

Any local business. Real estate agents, churches, landscapers, dentists, HVAC shops, restaurants, political campaigns, salons, auto shops, and more. See industries.

Card sizes and design

What sizes can I mail?

EDDM pieces must be "flats". The common sizes are 6.25 x 9, 6.25 x 11, and 8.5 x 11.

Can I mail a 4 x 6 postcard?

Not with EDDM. A standard 4 x 6 card is too small to qualify.

Can I use my own design?

Yes. Upload a PDF or image. We check the size and the USPS mail area before it prints. Or start from one of our templates.

Will I see a proof?

Yes. You get a proof in one business day. Nothing prints until you approve it.

Pricing and postage

How much does it cost?

From $0.44 a home for a 6.25 x 9 card, all in. That is $0.18 for printing and $0.26 for postage. These are sample prices. See plans and pricing or the cost calculator.

Why is postage shown on its own line?

USPS sets EDDM postage. We charge exactly what USPS charges. Retail EDDM postage is $0.260 a piece since July 12, 2026.

What happens if postage goes up?

Postage is passed through at cost. If USPS changes the rate, your quote updates to the new rate and you see it before you pay.

Are there setup fees?

No.

Can I get a refund?

Before you approve the proof, yes. After it prints, printing and postage cannot be refunded.

Timing and delivery

When will homes get my card?

Proof in one business day. We print and drop within five business days after you approve. USPS delivers in 7 to 10 business days.

How far ahead should I order?

Plan on about three weeks from order to mailbox. For a date that matters, like an open house, a holiday service, or early voting, order earlier.

Can I choose the delivery day?

You choose the drop date. USPS controls the exact delivery day within its window.

How do I know it was mailed?

We upload a photo of the drop and the stamped USPS form to your order.

Tracking and plans

How do you track results?

Each mailing gets its own QR code and landing page. A call tracking number is on by default. Reports arrive at day 14 and day 30. See results.

Can I cancel a plan?

Yes, any month, before your next drop date. No contract.

What is the difference between the plans?

Starter is one mailing, paid per home. Growth is $99 a month plus homes, with monthly drops and tracking. Autopilot is $249 a month plus homes, and adds matching Facebook and Google ads to the same streets. Sample prices.

Political mail

Do you mail for political campaigns?

Yes. Campaign mail is common in election years, timed to early voting and election day.

Does campaign mail need a disclaimer?

Yes. Campaign mail needs a "Paid for by" line. The campaign is responsible for the exact wording its rules require. Our political templates include a space for it, and we will not print a political card without one.
